ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Reader Susan Payne, who visited in 2008, writes with information (and photos). She says:

Mixed summer vegetables picked at Charlie Eubanks farm.

From West Mobile, this is closer than Baldwin County, and the produce grown is very good. In order to justify the gas over there, there were 5 of us (plus a 2 year old) picking. You bring your own containers; five gallon buckets are the monetary standard. For $8.00 a five gallon bucket, you can fill it with pretty much whatever. We all picked a mixed bag of tomatoes, bell peppers, banana peppers, jalepeno peppers, eggplant, okra, purple hull peas, butter beans, and onions. The corn was $.20 per ear. And they had watermelons, seedless watermelons, cantaloupes and other items pre-picked for sale.

A selection of onions from Charlie Eubanks farm.

It was a great outing with friends and I was thrilled to see so many other people out with their families doing the same thing.

Just down the road is one of the best catfish restaurants in the area. That alone is worth the trip.

Just up the road is a little store and they make hamburgers and they are the best ever. My husband and I always go there and get one after we have picked all the good veggies that Ubanks has. That is a blessing to my family and others to have a place to go get fresh veggies. Thanks Eubanks for allowing us to do so.

My husband, and my two young daughters, and my self, look forward to the garden opening up each year, we have been going for the past 3 years, and it is just such wonderful fun, my 5 year old loves finding the biggest, reddest, tomato on the vines, she has a blast in the garden, my 11 year old is more serious about the picking, she just enjoys going and almost standing in one spot and filling her 5 gallon bucket with the wonderful tomatoes. We can’t wait for the garden to open, we are all like little children waiting on Santa to come. Thanks for the wonderful, clean, garden, and the opportunity to be able to share it with our children, it brings back memories of my childhood, when I used to go with my Grandparents to pick from u pick gardens, it was wonderful, and my children have the opportunity to have some great memories too, thank you!
